Real Madrid coach says the team is “here to win” as Los Blancos prepare for a decisive quarter-final

After knocking out Juventus in a tightly contested round of 16 match, Real Madrid have secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. But for head coach Xabi Alonso, the next opponent whether Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey makes little difference.

“It Doesn’t Matter Who We Face”

Speaking in the post-match interview, Xabi Alonso made it clear that his focus is on winning the trophy, not on which side Real Madrid draws next.

“Dortmund vs Monterrey? I’ll keep an eye on that, of course. It doesn’t matter who I prefer. I know Dortmund very well, and I also know Monterrey’s coach,” said the Spanish tactician.

This pragmatic mindset reflects the mentality Alonso has instilled in the squad a win-or-go-home mentality that keeps players locked in for every match.

Real Madrid’s Goal: Lift the Club World Cup

The win over Juventus was a key step in Madrid’s journey, but Alonso isn’t satisfied yet.

“These games… You either go on or you go home,” the coach said. “Now we are in the quarterfinals, but we want more.”

The Spanish giants, led by stars like Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Gonzalo García, are preparing intensely for the next clash.
