Thomas Müller evaluates Sydney FC offer and postpones decision on post-Bayern future

Veteran German star attracts MLS and A-League interest; lifestyle may sway choice over salary
Thomas Müller is evaluating a potential move to Sydney FC, as he weighs up where to continue his career following his departure from Bayern Munich. Now a free agent at 35, the midfielder has received offers from two Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs, including Los Angeles FC, but is seriously considering finishing his career in the A-League.
According to Sky Sports Germany, negotiations with Sydney FC are ongoing. The Australian club is emphasizing quality of life and a lower-pressure environment two factors Müller reportedly finds appealing after spending his entire career in Germany.
Sydney pushes for lifestyle over money; Müller undecided
Müller has not ruled out MLS, but the financial offers coming from the United States are significantly higher than what Sydney FC can match, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald. Still, the Australian side hopes its relaxed atmosphere, climate, and opportunity for a fresh cultural experience will prove decisive.
Neither Müller’s camp nor Sydney FC have made public statements, but sources say the talks are being taken seriously. A final decision is expected in the coming weeks.
Possible reunion with Douglas Costa could influence move
Should he accept the offer from Sydney FC, Müller would reunite with Douglas Costa, his former teammate at Bayern Munich, who currently plays for the A-League side. In addition, Alexander Baumjohann, another ex-Bayern player, is now part of Sydney’s front office and is reportedly leading negotiations.
Despite his age, Müller remains in top physical and technical form. He appeared in 49 matches last season and was part of Bayern’s Club World Cup campaign, which ended with a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Coach sees Müller as perfect fit for midfield role
Sydney FC head coach Ufuk Talay has stated publicly that the team is looking for a creative and versatile midfielder, a profile that matches Müller’s attributes.
“We’re seeking someone with intelligence and experience who can control tempo — Müller would be ideal,” said Talay in a recent press appearance.
A decision on Müller’s next club is expected before the start of the European season.
