Real Madrid Offered Piero Hincapié as Xabi Alonso Eyes Defensive Reinforcements

After Club World Cup disappointment, the Spanish giants consider a familiar face from Bayer Leverkusen.
Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign Piero Hincapié, the highly-rated Ecuadorian defender who flourished under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, according to ESPN. The offer comes in the wake of Madrid’s 4-0 loss to PSG in the Club World Cup semifinals a defeat that exposed serious weaknesses in their defensive setup.
Real Madrid Eyeing Defensive Reinforcements
With only Dean Huijsen impressing during the competition, club officials are reportedly assessing the need to bring in a new center-back. Players like Raúl Asencio underperformed, leading to internal discussions about reshaping the back line ahead of the new season.
The 23-year-old Hincapié, who helped Leverkusen secure their first-ever Bundesliga title, has emerged as a top candidate. His previous experience under Alonso could ease the transition into Real Madrid’s system, should the club decide to proceed with the deal.
Tactical Fit with Alonso’s Vision
At Leverkusen, Hincapié was deployed in a three-man defense, often covering the left side but also filling in as a full-back. Known for his pace, tactical intelligence, and ability to distribute the ball under pressure, Hincapié became a central piece in Alonso’s title-winning squad.
His familiarity with the Spanish coach’s playing style positions him as a low-risk acquisition in terms of adaptation. Real Madrid is expected to consider this factor heavily as they evaluate potential defensive signings.
Market Value Reflects Rising Status
Hincapié joined Leverkusen in 2021 from Talleres in Argentina for approximately €6 million (around R$38.7 million). His market value has since skyrocketed, and he is currently valued at €50 million (around R$323.6 million), according to Transfermarkt.
Despite the hefty price tag, the valuation is viewed as fair by analysts, given the defender’s consistent performances in Germany and his untapped potential at the elite level.
Transfer Outlook
While Real Madrid has yet to make a formal offer, the player’s name is gaining traction within club circles. With Xabi Alonso now in charge and keen to rebuild a resilient squad, Hincapié may soon find himself reunited with his former manager on one of Europe’s grandest stages.
