PSG’s Vitinha says winning the Club World Cup won’t be bigger than winning the Champions League

PSG star reflects on the tournament’s importance after historic win over Real Madrid
After Paris Saint-Germain’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semi-final, midfielder Vitinha shared his honest perspective on the competition’s place in world football. While celebrating PSG’s success, the Portuguese international made it clear: for now, nothing tops the UEFA Champions League.
“It’s Not the Same… Yet,” Says Vitinha
Vitinha, who played a key role in PSG’s dominant midfield performance, was asked post-match whether winning the Club World Cup would mean more than lifting the Champions League trophy a title PSG claimed in stunning fashion by defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in May.
“It’s a new competition, and I don’t think it compares to the Champions League,” Vitinha said. “I believe it will become one of the most important tournaments in the future, but this is the first edition. We’ll see how impactful it becomes over the next few years.”
Despite the current hierarchy, the midfielder emphasized PSG’s ambition:
“Either way, we want to win it. We want to make even more history.”
PSG’s Road to the Final: A Statement of Intent
PSG’s path to the final has been anything but easy. Over the course of six matches, the French champions showcased depth, experience, and attacking brilliance:
- Group Stage: Defeated Atlético Madrid, lost to Botafogo, and beat Seattle Sounders
- Knockouts: Knocked out Inter Miami, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid
The 4-0 demolition of Los Blancos in the semifinals sent shockwaves through the tournament, cementing PSG as heavy favorites for the final.
