Post-Club World Cup: Chelsea to Face Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan Ahead of Premier League Kickoff

Fresh off their second FIFA Club World Cup triumph, Chelsea FC have confirmed a pre-season schedule that includes high-profile friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan before their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

Blues Begin Post-Tournament Break Before August Friendlies

Following a dramatic 2–1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final on July 13, Chelsea’s players were granted a short holiday period. Among them, Marc Cucurella reportedly opted for a Disney cruise, according to Daily Mail journalist Kieran Gill.

The squad is set to return to training under Enzo Maresca in the final week of July, with two key fixtures scheduled in early August. Chelsea will first face Bayer Leverkusen coached by Erik ten Hag on August 8 at 1 p.m. Brasília time (5 p.m. BST). Two days later, the Blues will take on Massimiliano Allegri’s AC Milan on August 10 at 11 a.m. Brasília time (3 p.m. BST).

Premier League Debut Set for August 17 at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea will kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign at home against Crystal Palace on August 17 at 10 a.m. Brasília time (2 p.m. BST). The match at Stamford Bridge marks the beginning of a new era under Maresca, who is expected to use the pre-season games to fine-tune tactics and evaluate squad depth.

The fixture will also pit Chelsea against John Textor’s Palace side, with both teams aiming to start strong in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive season.

Calm but Focused Atmosphere at Chelsea

Despite the recent international success, the mood at Cobham Training Centre remains grounded. According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Chelsea’s players were praised for their achievement but reminded by club officials to stay humble and focused.

“The players were congratulated, but also reminded that the real challenge now is to compete for the Premier League and Champions League,” said Solhekol.

Behind the scenes, the board continues working to bolster the squad, with new signings expected before the transfer window closes.
