Only Mbappé and Lunin Attend Lucas Vázquez’s Farewell at Real Madrid

Club legend departs after 400+ matches and five Champions League titles; fans criticize teammates’ absence.

Lucas Vázquez officially bid farewell to Real Madrid on Thursday (July 17) in a low-key ceremony that drew attention for the notable absence of most first-team players. Only Kylian Mbappé and Andriy Lunin were present at the farewell event held at the club’s facilities.

Mbappé Cancels Vacation to Support Friend

According to club sources, Mbappé interrupted his vacation to attend the tribute, citing his close friendship with Vázquez as the reason for his presence. Backup goalkeeper Lunin, a long-time teammate, also made the effort to be there.

In contrast, the rest of the Real Madrid squad including long-time colleagues like Modrić, Carvajal, and Vinícius Júnior did not attend, prompting criticism from fans across social media, many of whom labeled the absence “disrespectful” to a player who spent over a decade at the club.

A Decorated Career in White

Lucas Vázquez leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. Having made over 400 official appearances, the Galician-born player won every major title, including five UEFA Champions League trophies, placing him among the most decorated players in the competition’s history.

Originally a winger, Vázquez transitioned into the right-back role to fill tactical needs a move that showcased his versatility and commitment. While he was rarely a consistent starter, his contributions were vital in numerous key moments.

“I realized my life’s dream and did it at the biggest club in the world. Real Madrid will always be with me,” said Vázquez during his emotional farewell speech.
