French left-back has no intention of exiting despite competition in the squad

Ferland Mendy has made it clear he wants to remain at Real Madrid, despite increasing competition and recent transfer speculation. The French defender, 30, has no interest in leaving the club this summer, and his representatives insist he offers more than newcomer Álvaro Carreras, according to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana and Guillermo Rai.

Mendy firm on staying at Real Madrid

Although Mendy suffered a series of injuries last season and started only 28 of the club’s 68 matches, he believes he still has a place in the team under new coach Xabi Alonso. Real Madrid had reportedly considered moving on from either Mendy or Fran García, but both players have expressed their desire to stay.

Sources say Mendy’s agents are confident he remains a better option than Álvaro Carreras, who recently arrived from Benfica. Carreras, just 21, is expected to challenge for the left-back position, making the role highly competitive this season.

Xabi Alonso outlined squad roles

According to AS, head coach Xabi Alonso has already held meetings with players to explain his plans and expectations for the upcoming campaign. While some considered leaving after these conversations, Mendy reportedly received the message positively and remains committed to competing for his place.

Despite limited minutes last season, the defender has not requested a transfer and is prepared to fight for a regular role.

Mendy’s stats and market value

In the 2024/25 season, Mendy featured in 31 matches across all competitions, totaling 2,248 minutes and registering two assists. Although his role was rotational, he remains under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2028.

His current market value is estimated at €14 million, reflecting a slight drop due to fitness issues and reduced playing time.
