Manchester City’s Rodri is open to joining Mbappé and Vinicius Junior’s Real Madrid

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is reportedly open to a move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish club making the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner their top priority for the upcoming transfer windows. According to Cadena SER, Rodri views the project led by new manager Xabi Alonso positively and would be keen on joining forces with Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior at the Santiago Bernabéu.
While no formal negotiations have taken place, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is said to be quietly working behind the scenes to explore the possibility of signing the Spain international, who is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.
Madrid’s Midfield Vision
Rodri’s potential arrival would signal a significant reshaping of Real Madrid’s midfield. Aurélien Tchouaméni, who currently occupies the holding role, could see reduced minutes, as both players operate in similar positions. A possible future lineup could feature Rodri alongside Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Arda Güler, with the Turkish star gaining prominence following an impressive Club World Cup campaign.
City Calm, But Madrid Persistent
Although Manchester City maintains that Rodri is not for sale, there’s growing unease at the Etihad as Real Madrid’s interest intensifies. The club is aware of Rodri’s personal ties to Madrid, where he was born and raised, and his admiration for Los Blancos since childhood.
Rodri is currently valued at €110 million (approximately R$718 million), a figure that aligns with City’s internal valuation. While Real Madrid may not match that amount immediately, they’re reportedly considering two strategies:
- A late-window bid to test City’s resolve this summer, or
- Waiting until next season, when Rodri enters the final year of his contract, to push for a discounted deal.
Patience Could Be Key
Given the complexity of the potential transfer and the fact that Rodri is returning from a serious injury, Real Madrid may opt to wait until the summer of 2026 to move decisively. The club is confident that the player’s desire and connection to the Spanish capital will play a major role in the long run.
Rodri has been a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s squad since arriving from Atlético Madrid in 2019, and any departure would mark a major shake-up in City’s midfield dynamics.
