Jorge Jesus Takes Over at Al-Nassr, Vows to Help Cristiano Ronaldo Win Titles

Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus has officially been named head coach of Al-Nassr, where he will work alongside superstar Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time. The veteran coach signed a contract running until mid-2026, with the mission of ending Ronaldo’s title drought at the Saudi club.
In his first statement after the announcement, Jesus revealed that Ronaldo personally invited him to take the job an invitation he described as decisive.
“Without his invitation, I might not be there,” Jesus said. “The motivation will be huge. Al-Nassr is one of the biggest clubs in Saudi Arabia, and Ronaldo hasn’t won there yet. I’ll see if I can help him.”
A Return to Familiar Territory
Jesus returns to Saudi Arabia after a successful spell with rivals Al-Hilal, where he led the team to a Saudi League title and an impressive 34-game winning streak. Although his previous campaign ended with elimination from the AFC Champions League in May, Jesus said he was “always happy” in the country.
Comparing his club switch to a Portuguese football rivalry, Jesus added:
“It was like leaving Benfica for Sporting. Now I’m going to be Al-Nassr.”
Missed Brazil Job Opened the Door
Jesus was a strong contender for the Brazil national team coaching role following Dorival Júnior’s exit. However, after the CBF confirmed Carlo Ancelotti, the path cleared for the 69-year-old to finalize his agreement with Al-Nassr.
This move marks the first official partnership between Jorge Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo two of Portugal’s biggest football names. Ronaldo recently renewed his contract with Al-Nassr through 2027, ensuring at least one full season together under the current terms.
Managing Ronaldo’s Minutes
According to Saudi journalist Falah Al Qahtani, Jorge Jesus may opt to reduce Ronaldo’s playing time in less critical matches to avoid injuries and maximize his impact in decisive fixtures.
Pressure and Expectations
Jesus inherits an Al-Nassr squad under pressure to deliver results and restore its dominance in domestic and continental competitions. Despite big-name signings and Ronaldo’s presence, the club has struggled to convert its star power into silverware.
The 2024–25 season now begins with high expectations as Jesus aims to help CR7 win the elusive Saudi title and cement his legacy in a league rapidly growing in stature.
