Hansi Flick Set to Cut 10 Barcelona Players from Asia Preseason Tour

As Barcelona begins its preparations for the 2025–2026 season, head coach Hansi Flick has revealed that up to 10 players will be left out of the club’s preseason tour in Asia. The decision comes amid efforts to trim the squad and focus on physical readiness ahead of the new campaign.
Flick Confirms Squad Reduction Ahead of Asian Friendlies
During an informal conversation with reporters at training on Thursday (17), Flick confirmed he plans to reduce the 36-man squad to just 26 players for the tour in Japan and South Korea. The coach emphasized that the final list is still under evaluation and will be finalized after one more week of training and individual assessments.
“The goal is to gauge each player’s fitness and competitiveness,” Flick stated, signaling that injury concerns and physical condition will be decisive factors.
Key Names Could Miss Out, Including Ter Stegen
Among those under close scrutiny is Marc-André ter Stegen, who is reportedly suffering from recurring back pain. According to reports from Jijantes, the German goalkeeper may require surgery, potentially ruling him out of the tour entirely.
Players currently recovering from injuries or lacking match rhythm are the most likely to be left out, as Barcelona seeks to bring only those capable of maintaining high intensity during the upcoming matches.
Barcelona’s Preseason Schedule in Asia
Barcelona will play three friendlies across Japan and South Korea as part of its international expansion strategy. The tour will serve as a critical testing ground for new signings and tactical adjustments under Flick’s leadership.
- Vissel Kobe vs Barcelona – Sunday, July 27th at 7:00 AM (Brasília time)
- Seoul vs Barcelona – Thursday, July 31st at 8:00 AM (Brasília time)
- Daegu vs Barcelona – Monday, August 4th at 8:00 AM (Brasília time)
Youth and Depth to Be Evaluated
With 36 players in preseason camp, competition for a spot on the tour is fierce. Flick is expected to give preference to those in peak physical form, while some fringe players and youth prospects may remain in Spain to continue training.
Barcelona’s preseason in Asia marks a pivotal moment in Flick’s tenure, as the club aims to build momentum ahead of its La Liga debut against Mallorca on August 16th.
