Guardiola approves the arrival of Lunin from Real Madrid at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has approved a move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, with Manchester City prepared to offer €45 million (R$292 million) for the Ukrainian shot-stopper, according to reports from Fichajes.

City Plans for Post-Ederson Era

Manchester City is bracing for the possible departure of Brazilian keeper Ederson, who is reportedly in talks with Galatasaray. Should that deal go through, Lunin has emerged as a prime candidate to take over between the posts at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola reportedly sees Lunin as a reliable option and has given the green light for the club to pursue the 25-year-old. However, City’s top target remains James Trafford, who was sold to Burnley but can be bought back for £40 million due to a clause in his previous contract.

Real Madrid’s Rebuild: Selling to Balance the Squad

Real Madrid, having already confirmed four signings for the 2025/26 season Dean Huijsen, Alphonso Arnold, Claudio Echeverri Mastantuono, and Álvaro Carreras is now open to offloading several players to balance the squad.

Names like Dani Ceballos, Brahim Díaz, Fran García, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo have all been linked with exits, as the club reshapes under Xabi Alonso.

Lunin’s Situation at Real Madrid

Lunin is currently under contract with Real Madrid until June 2030 and has been Courtois’s primary backup. The Ukrainian has made 62 appearances since arriving at the club in the 2020/21 season. Despite limited opportunities, he has impressed during key fixtures, especially during Courtois’ injury spells.

With Courtois signing a contract extension through 2027, Lunin’s long-term future in Madrid remains uncertain, especially with top clubs like Manchester City showing interest.
