Flamengo Targets River Plate’s Facundo Colidio, Ready to Pay $30 Million Release Clause

Flamengo is moving aggressively in the transfer market to reinforce its attack and has set its sights on Argentine striker Facundo Colidio, currently with River Plate. According to journalist Juan Cortese, the Rio de Janeiro club is prepared to pay the 25-year-old forward’s release clause, which stands at $30 million (approximately R$162 million).

Colidio, who has scored seven goals in 25 matches this season, is considered an ideal fit for coach Filipe Luís’s tactical system thanks to his versatility. The Argentine can play as a traditional center forward but also adapts to roles on the wings or even as an attacking midfielder, providing the mobility and dynamism Flamengo seeks.

The move comes as Flamengo navigates uncertainties over Pedro’s future, with speculation swirling about the striker’s potential departure. The interest in Colidio is not new, but the willingness to pay the full clause underlines the club’s determination to strengthen its attacking options.

Contract Situation

Facundo Colidio is under contract with River Plate until December 2025. While Flamengo’s interest is advanced, other reports suggest the club may attempt to negotiate a lower fee than the full termination clause, especially given that the player is already discussing a possible renewal with River.

Gerson Sale Boosts Flamengo’s Budget

Flamengo’s push for Colidio was further boosted by the transfer of midfielder Gerson to Zenit St. Petersburg, officially confirmed on Friday (July 4). Zenit activated Gerson’s release clause, paying 25 million euros (about R$160 million). That cash influx strengthens Flamengo’s budget and opens the door for reinforcements, with Colidio identified as the top target.
