Ederson’s replacement agrees to sign with Manchester City and Brazilian moves closer to Galatasaray

Manchester City are preparing for a potential change between the posts as Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson edges closer to a move to Galatasaray, with James Trafford emerging as the club’s top choice for replacement.
According to Football Insider, Trafford has already given the green light to his representatives, expressing his desire to return to the Etihad Stadium, where he began his career. The 22-year-old Burnley shot-stopper, who impressed last season in the Championship, is seen as a long-term successor if Ederson departs.
Trafford Keen on Return to City
Sources indicate that Trafford is “excited” about the opportunity to return to City, where he was previously on the books before his 2023 move to Burnley. City included a buyback clause at the time of his sale, and now they are considering triggering it.
The buyback fee is set at £40 million, which equates to approximately €47 million, a figure City are willing to pay once Ederson’s situation is clarified. The club is also evaluating the future of Stefan Ortega, who has drawn interest from other clubs across Europe.
Ederson’s Turkish Exit Nears Completion
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Galatasaray have reached an agreement in principle with Ederson, whose time at City could soon come to an end after seven highly successful seasons.
Should the deal go through, Ederson will join a growing number of experienced players making moves to Turkey this summer, and Manchester City will turn their full attention to Trafford.
Competition From Newcastle
While Trafford is open to rejoining Pep Guardiola’s squad, Newcastle United have also registered interest in the young England international. The Magpies are monitoring the situation closely as they look to reinforce their own goalkeeping options for the 2025/26 season.
City remain in control of the situation due to the buyback clause, and a decision is expected in the coming days as the transfer dominoes begin to fall.
