In the wake of Jamal Musiala’s serious ankle injury, Bayern Munich have set their sights on Xavi Simons as a top target to reinforce their midfield. According to The Athletic, the German champions are preparing an offer for the Dutch playmaker, who has impressed during his time with RB Leipzig.

Musiala Sidelined for Half the Season

The injury blow came during the Club World Cup quarterfinal clash against PSG, where Musiala suffered a fractured left ankle. Early reports indicate that the 21-year-old will be out for at least six months, leaving a creative void in Bayern’s attack as they prepare for the start of the Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns.

Xavi Simons: Bayern’s Priority Target

Bayern’s recruitment team has moved quickly, identifying Xavi Simons as the ideal replacement. The 22-year-old Dutch international is reportedly open to a move away from RB Leipzig, with Bayern leading the chase ahead of interest from several Premier League clubs.

According to Transfermarkt, Simons is currently valued at €70 million, and Bayern are said to be willing to match that figure to secure his services.

Xavi Simons’ Numbers in Germany

Simons joined RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain for €50 million and has since established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most creative players. In 76 appearances, the attacking midfielder has tallied 21 goals and 23 assists, maintaining an average of 0.58 goal contributions per match.

In the 2024/25 season alone, Simons has racked up 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 matches, showcasing his ability to dictate play and score under pressure.

Still only 22, Simons has already made 163 senior appearances for PSG, PSV, RB Leipzig, and the Dutch national team, with a combined 48 goals and 38 assists across all competitions.

Notably, the midfielder is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, giving him a tactical foundation that has translated well across multiple European leagues.

Bayern’s Midfield Shake-Up

With Musiala set for a long spell on the sidelines, Bayern are looking to minimize the impact on their attacking structure. Xavi Simons’ versatility, playmaking vision, and pressing work rate make him a natural fit for Vincent Kompany’s tactical setup, which emphasizes high intensity and fluid movement in the final third.

If the transfer goes through, Simons could become Bayern’s marquee signing of the summer, helping the club stay competitive both domestically and in Europe.
