Atlético de Madrid prepares the departures of Samu Lino, Conor Gallagher and Thomas Lemar Lemar

Atlético Madrid is preparing to part ways with Conor Gallagher, Samu Lino, and Thomas Lemar before the close of the summer transfer window. The club’s management is focused on reducing its wage bill and reshaping the squad, following recent high-profile departures.
The decision comes as part of a broader restructuring strategy endorsed by head coach Diego Simeone, who no longer sees the trio as part of his long-term plans. Earlier this month, Saúl Ñíguez joined Flamengo, while Rodrigo De Paul signed for Inter Miami, further signaling a shift in Atlético’s direction.
Gallagher Likely to Return to Premier League
Conor Gallagher, who joined Atlético from Chelsea last season, has fallen out of favor in Madrid. With stiff competition in midfield bolstered by new signings like Johnny Cardoso, Alex Baena, and Thiago Almada Gallagher is seeking a move to maintain his place in the England squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Tottenham Hotspur remain the most interested party, though Newcastle United have also made inquiries. A deal could be completed soon if Atlético lowers its asking price.
Samu Lino and Lemar Also Expected to Depart
Samu Lino, despite showing promise in attack last season, is not aligned with Simeone’s current tactical setup. Napoli and Wolverhampton Wanderers have shown interest in the Brazilian winger. Atlético is reportedly willing to sell for around €25 million, approximately R$163.5 million.
Meanwhile, Thomas Lemar, who is under contract until 2026, continues to struggle with form and injuries. Interest has come from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, with Atlético prioritizing his departure to free up squad space and salary resources.
Atlético Targeting Financial Balance and Flexibility
The planned departures are part of Atlético’s effort to balance finances and create room for potential signings. The club is expected to be active in the final stretch of the transfer window as it eyes reinforcements aligned with Simeone’s vision for the 2025/26 campaign.
