Antony Set to Leave Manchester United as Atlético Madrid Lead £30 Million Race

Brazilian winger Antony is poised to leave Manchester United, with Atlético Madrid emerging as the frontrunner to sign him in a deal reportedly worth £30 million (approx. R$224 million). The transfer would end a mixed spell for the player at Old Trafford and mark a new chapter in his revitalized career.

Atlético Madrid in Advanced Talks

According to journalist Peter Hall, Diego Simeone’s side is currently leading the race for the 24-year-old, who impressed during a recent loan spell at Real Betis. Antony’s performances in La Liga have reignited interest from several top European clubs, but Atlético Madrid appears closest to securing his services.

Negotiations between the Spanish club and Manchester United are expected to intensify in the coming days, with Atlético aiming to wrap up the deal before the new season.

A Turnaround in Spain

After struggling to adapt in the Premier League, Antony was loaned to Real Betis in January 2025. His time in Seville marked a dramatic turnaround he became a key player and earned a return to the Brazilian national team.

This resurgence has made the former São Paulo and Ajax star a hot commodity once again, and Simeone reportedly views him as an affordable, impactful reinforcement to bolster Atlético’s squad.

Other Clubs in the Mix

While Atlético leads the race, other clubs have shown interest in the winger. Brighton & Hove Albion, RB Leipzig, and Real Betis have all been monitoring the situation. However, none have advanced as far as the Madrid side in negotiations.

Atlético Madrid, following a disappointing run in the Club World Cup, is prioritizing reinforcements ahead of the 2025–26 season. The club sees Antony as a high-upside signing capable of immediate contribution.

Ten Hag Speaks on Antony

Former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag, now with Bayer Leverkusen, recently spoke about Antony during a visit to Brazil. “He was like a son to me, and still is,” said Ten Hag, but confirmed that his current club has no intention to pursue the Brazilian at this time.

With United ready to part ways and Atlético pushing forward, Antony appears set to swap the Premier League for La Liga once again this time on a permanent basis.
