Nottingham Forest sack Nuno Espírito Santo and move fast to appoint Ange Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest act quickly and sign Ange Postecoglou hours after announcing the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo

Premier League side acts within hours, reaching an agreement with the former Tottenham boss until 2027.

A quick turnaround at the City Ground

Nottingham Forest made one of the fastest managerial changes of the season. Just hours after confirming the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo on Monday night (08), the club reached an agreement with Ange Postecoglou, who is set to take charge until June 2027, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Greek-Australian coach, who last season guided Tottenham to a UEFA Europa League title, was also wanted by Bayer Leverkusen. His arrival at Forest aligns with the interests of owner Evangelos Marinakis, who shares Greek roots with the new manager.

Why Nuno was dismissed

Despite leading Forest to 7th place in the Premier League in 2024/25, Nuno’s time at the club ended after a series of internal disagreements with Marinakis and director Edu Gaspar. His dismissal comes after Forest failed to win in their last two matches.

In a farewell statement, the club thanked the Portuguese coach for saving the team from relegation in 2023/24 and for his strong campaign last season:

“Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach. The Club thanks him for his contribution, particularly his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the club’s history.”

During his spell at the City Ground, Nuno managed 73 matches, winning 28.

Postecoglou’s mission at Nottingham Forest

Postecoglou arrives with the challenge of maintaining Forest’s competitiveness in the Premier League. While he brought European silverware to Tottenham, his domestic campaign was disappointing, as Spurs finished 17th.

Forest currently sit 10th in the table with four points and will face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday (13). If negotiations conclude smoothly, Postecoglou could make his debut in that match, a fixture familiar to him from his time in North London.
