Palmeiras and Inter Miami draw in the Club World Cup and qualify for the round of 16
In the round of 16, the São Paulo club will face an old acquaintance, Botafogo.

Palmeiras secured a 2-2 draw against Inter Miami (USA) on Monday night (23) at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, in Group A of the Club World Cup. With this result, Verdão secured qualification for the round of 16 of the competition as the first placed team in the group.
After the draw for the team led by Argentine star Lionel Messi, the team led by Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira closed the first phase of the World Cup with five points, the same score as the North American team, which secured second place after a 4-4 draw between Al Ahly (Egypt) and Porto (Portugal).
The Brazilian team had its worst performance in the first half of the Club World Cup so far. With difficulties in creating attacks, Verdão gave up a lot of space in defense. Thus, in the 15th minute, it allowed midfielder Allende to break away at speed from the defense and beat goalkeeper Weverton to open the scoring.

At the start of the second half, the panorama changed little, and Inter Miami scored the second goal thanks to a great play by Luis Suárez. In the 19th minute, the Uruguayan striker got away from Lucas Evangelista and Bruno Fuchs before finding the corner of the goal defended by Weverton to score a great goal.
However, encouraged by their passionate fans, Palmeiras changed the game after seeing their opponents open up a two-goal lead. First, the Brazilian team managed to pull one back in the 34th minute with Paulinho, who received a pass from Gustavo Gómez to cross the ball past goalkeeper Ustari.
Abel Ferreira’s team continued to seek victory, and managed to equalize in the 41st minute, with a shot from Maurício inside the area that guaranteed the victory and first place in Group A. In this way, Verdão faces Botafogo in the round of 16 of the competition.
