Al Ahli, from Saudi Arabia, is interested in signing Lionel Messi

Saudi Pro League giants Al Ahli have reignited interest in signing Lionel Messi, according to reports from Arab journalist Walid Saeed. The Inter Miami star remains one of the most sought-after names in global football, and a move to the Middle East may not be off the table.

Messi a Key Target for Al Ahli and Saudi Investment Fund

Al Ahli’s board is reportedly closely monitoring Messi’s situation in the U.S., as his current contract with Inter Miami expires at the end of 2025. According to sources, the Saudi club is preparing a fresh approach to sign the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Messi had already rejected a record-breaking salary offer from Al Hilal in 2023, estimated at around R$2 billion per year (~€370 million), opting instead for a move to MLS. However, the Saudi Public Investment Fund which oversees many of the league’s top clubs remains eager to bring him back into Middle Eastern football.

Messi’s Future at Inter Miami Uncertain

Although Inter Miami is reportedly in talks to renew Messi’s contract, ESPN and Sky Sport have hinted at the Argentine’s growing discontent with certain aspects of life in the U.S. His father and agent, Jorge Messi, is said to have resumed discussions with Saudi representatives.

Messi’s current deal runs until December 2025, with an option to extend. However, no extension has been signed yet.

  • Assists: 6

He played in the 2025 Club World Cup, where Inter Miami managed a thrilling 2-2 draw against Palmeiras. Messi was instrumental in the group stage, though the team was eliminated on goal difference.

Will Messi Join the Saudi League in 2026?

With Al Ahli and even Al Nassr reportedly interested, Messi’s next move remains one of the biggest transfer storylines of 2025. The Saudi Pro League continues to attract global stars, and with Messi still performing at an elite level, clubs are willing to offer massive packages to secure his signature.

Could Messi follow Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi League? Or will he extend his stay in Miami? The football world waits.
