Guardiola has no retirement date, but is preparing to “take a break”

In an interview with ESPN , Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola admitted that, as his contract with the English side until 2027 ends, he will not be seen on the pitch for a while.

Guardiola , a six-time English champion, has only taken one break since becoming Barcelona manager in 2008/09, in 2012/13. He coached Bayern from 2013 to 2016 and is now finishing his ninth season in charge of the Skyblues . “After my contract with Manchester City , I will stop. I’m sure. I don’t know if I will retire, but I will take a break,” explained the Spaniard.

In the same interview, the coach stated that he had one goal in his career: to entertain those who watched the games of the teams he coached. “All coaches want to win so that their work is memorable, but I think the fans of Barcelona , Bayern and Manchester City had fun watching my games,” he explained.

Guardiola also admitted that he believes he will be well remembered in the future, even if that doesn’t cross the Spaniard’s mind. “When we die, our families mourn us for two or three days and that’s it. In the coaching career there are good guys and bad guys. What’s important is that the good guys are remembered for longer. The most important thing is not what people think of us, our lives, as football players, have been very good. There are new challenges as a coach, I don’t know what will happen in the future and that doesn’t matter”, he concluded.
