Botafogo loses to Capital-DF, but advances in the Brazilian Cup
Alvinegro secured its place with an advantage from the first leg; the home team ended its participation in the tournament with a great goal from Rodriguinho and good saves from Reynaldo

Classification with defeat
Botafogo played poorly against Capital and ended up losing 1-0 this Thursday at the Mané Garrincha stadium. Despite the result, Renato Paiva’s team advances in the Copa do Brasil. The Alvinegro had the advantage after winning 4-0 in the first leg in Rio, went onto the field with ten substitutes and performed at a very low level. Capital, in turn, played a sober game and won with a great goal from Rodriguinho, chipping Raul.
First half
Botafogo took possession of the ball from the start, occupied the attacking half and pushed the team from Capital into the final third. However, coach Renato Paiva’s team lacked the offensive repertoire to create strategies that would have allowed the team to get close to Reynaldo’s goal. Elias Manoel, isolated in the area, was not given the necessary ammunition and, when he left the area, he had difficulty with the ball. The best chance for the black and white team came from a free kick that hit the post by Alex Telles. Capital, with the thankless task of reversing the 4-0 from the first leg, relied on counterattacks and reduced the difference in the aggregate score with a great goal. Rodriguinho unleashed a bomb from the midfield that went over Raul. The young goalkeeper, who came up through the black and white youth system, came on to replace Léo Linck, who was injured early on. The black and white team’s attacking streak continued until half-time, leaving Capital with the advantage.
Second stage
The teams came back from the break at a very slow pace. Adílio, who came on in the second half, made a good play on the wing and put Raul to work. Then, Jeffinho had a chance to equalize, but his shot was poor. As the game progressed, there were plenty of passing errors and a lack of inspiration. When called upon, Santi Rodriguez managed to pose some danger, but he didn’t participate much. The black and whites’ best chances fell to Nathan and Mateo Ponte. In the end, Botafogo pressed to equalize, but lacked the precision to score.
