Bayer Leverkusen announce Erik ten Hag as new coach
Without a club since October 2024, the Dutch coach signs with the German club, which lost Xabi Alonso in the transfer window

Bayer Leverkusen announced on Monday the hiring of Dutchman Erik ten Hag as the team’s new coach. The coach arrives at the German club to replace Xabi Alonso, who will soon be presented by Real Madrid.
Ten Hag’s last club was Manchester United. The Dutchman was sacked by the English club in October 2024. He had taken charge of the Red Devils in April 2022 and won two trophies, winning the English League Cup in the 2022/23 season and the 2023/24 FA Cup.
Manchester United have had their worst start to the Premier League season under Ten Hag. In their first seven games, the team have only picked up seven points. At the time, the manager has failed to get the team playing good football, especially after the start of 2023/24. The titles in his first seasons at the club have been credited for keeping the team in charge.
The announcement of his arrival at the German team was made by Bayer Leverkusen this Monday, when Xabi Alonso, former manager, will be presented as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement at Real Madrid and had already agreed to leave the club at the end of the season.
