Atlético de Madrid thrashes Girona in the last round of La Liga
Sorloth scored a hattrick in the last match of the Spanish championship.
Atlético de Madrid ended their participation in the 2024/25 La Liga season early this Sunday afternoon with a ‘smile on their lips’, thanks to the victory achieved in the trip to the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi, over Girona, by a categorical 0-4.
The team led by Diego Simeone was ‘on top’ of the game for practically the entire match of the 38th and final round, but the truth is that they only managed to break the resistance of the home team in the 68th minute, through Alexander Sorloth (hattrick) and Clémént Lenglet.
All things considered, with this triumph, Atlético de Madrid ends the campaign with 76 points, which leaves them in third place, nine points behind the leader, Barcelona (who will also visit Athletic Bilbao), and eight behind second-placed Real Madrid.
Girona, for their part, say goodbye to the season with 41 points, which puts them in 16th place, level with Sevilla (who have a match scheduled with Villarreal), and just one point above Leganés, the team that lives just below the ‘water line’.
