Argentina: They fought for the title and six months later they could be relegated
Last season, Talleres was three points away from the title. In the ‘hangover’ of the lost championship, they even won a super cup, but finished the Apertura Tournament in last place.

A lot can change in six months, and Talleres can prove it better than anyone. The defeat in the last round of the Argentine Primera División on December 15, 2024 sealed the farewell to the dream of the title, but fueled hope in a winning project.
Winning the Super Cup against River Plate in March still masked a disastrous start to the championship with three consecutive defeats, but it did not prevent the hangover of second place from hurting until the end of the Apertura.
Seven draws, seven defeats and just two wins in the Apertura Tournament have catapulted Talleres to the bottom of the table. The lackluster campaign in the League is reflected in the other competitions: in the Libertadores the club from Córdoba has suffered three defeats in as many games and in the Argentine Cup they were eliminated in the first leg against a second division club on penalties, after a 3-3 draw.
The sale of key players and instability on the bench (two coaches have already left) and in the management help explain Talleres’ nightmare period. Fortunately for the Argentine club, it has the opportunity to redeem itself in the Clausura, avoid relegation and gain momentum for the Libertadores.
