Real Madrid responds to referee’s cries with total ‘blackout’

Real Madrid have cancelled all official commitments required by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) ahead of the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona . Contrary to what was scheduled, Carlo Ancelotti and Luka Modric did not appear in the press room at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville to give the press conference ahead of El Clasico.

Radio Marca reports that the presence of the Madrid team in the match scheduled for this Saturday at 9pm is in doubt. Carlo Ancelotti’s team did not carry out the adaptation training session at the Seville Olympic Stadium, nor did they take official photos of the match, which are usual commitments before any Copa del Rey final.

The same source also says that Florentino Pérez will not be present at the classic dinner between the presidents of the finalist clubs, scheduled for this Friday, and his presence at Saturday’s meeting is even in doubt.

The cancellation of all these official moments comes after comments from the main referee and VAR of the match against Barcelona , Ricardo de Burgos and Pablo González Fuentes, which angered the Madrid fans. The two referees criticised a compilation of refereeing errors allegedly committed deliberately against Real Madrid broadcast on the club’s television channel over the last week.

De Burgos even cried during the press conference ahead of El Clasico when addressing the threats he had been subjected to throughout the week: «When your son goes to school and they tell him that his father is a thief and he comes home crying… it’s very complicated.»

Pablo González Fuertes, VAR for the derby, went further and criticised Real Madrid ‘s stance : “More than what is said, it is the consequences of what is said. We are seeing people on social media insulting and threatening without any control. Clubs’ social media managers have attacked the referees, in addition to the players’ actions and statements that give the impression that we are not honest in our decisions.”

Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Real Madrid , after the controversy broke out, asked for the refereeing team to be replaced for tomorrow’s match against Barcelona at 9pm, as they believe that the team’s impartiality may be at risk. The RFEF did not grant the request from the Merengues , who are also asking for the referees to publicly apologise for the statements made this morning.
