Manchester City prevailed at Wembley on Sunday, playing well and beating Nottingham Forest 2-0, qualifying for the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace. Rico Lewis and Gvardiol, one in each half, scored the goals. Despite their dominance, Guardiola’s team also had a good dose of luck: Forest hit City’s post three times in the second half.

The decision

The final will be a one-off game between Manchester City and Crystal Palace, who beat Aston Villa 3-0 the day before. The game is scheduled for May 17, a Saturday.

The 90 minutes

City scored their goal after just 2 minutes through Rico Lewis and played at ease. They spent the first half exchanging passes and overcoming Forest’s confusing marking in midfield. Despite having such superiority and not taking any risks at the back, Guardiola’s team didn’t have many chances to extend their lead. The team took more risks from outside the box, as Forest’s area was always full of defenders.

Just 1 minute into the second half, Elanga missed an incredible goal for Forest. He sent it wide in the penalty area. In the 5th minute, City extended their lead with a sensational header from Gvardiol. After that, Forest made changes and launched an attack. They didn’t manage to put up much pressure, but they hit the post three times: twice with Gibbs-White and once with Awoniyi.

Premier League Rivals

City and Forest will not face each other again this season, but they are fighting point by point for a place in the Premier League’s top four. City are in fourth place, with 61 points, while Forest are in sixth, with 60 points and a game in hand.
