Goal-scoring performance by the golden trio
Facing Raphinha, Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal this season has not been easy for anyone. When Barcelona’s golden trio is inspired, it becomes even more difficult. Borussia Dortmund discovered this on Wednesday. With a show from their forwards, Barça won 4-0 at home in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and came very close to reaching the semi-finals – they could lose by up to three goals in the return leg on Tuesday in Germany. Brazilian Raphinha scored the first goal and provided two assists in the match. Lewandowski scored twice, and Yamal ended the party.
TOP SCORER AND RUNNER-UP IN THE CHAMPIONS
Having had the best result in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, Barcelona also stands out in the competition for top scorer. Raphinha leads the race, now with 12 goals, and his teammate Lewandowski is also close behind, now with 11. Guirassy, Borussia’s number 9, failed to score on Wednesday and remains with ten in the scoring charts.
DOMAIN FROM THE BEGINNING
With a high volume of play, from the first minute, Barcelona was far superior to Borussia Dortmund in the first half. Less than ten minutes in, they had already had three great chances, two with Yamal and one with Lewandowski. Despite dominating, the home team went into the break with only 1-0 on the scoreboard. In the 24th minute, defender Cubarsí deflected the ball in the area, the ball was already going in, but Raphinha made sure to push it over the line and secure his 12th goal in the Champions League, opening up a lead in the scoring charts.
COMPLETE TOUR IN THE 2ND HALF
Just two minutes into the second half, the attacking trio worked again to score Barça’s second goal: Yamal crossed the ball to the far post, Raphinha headed it into the six-yard box, and Lewandowski, also with a header, only to finish into an empty net. The third goal came in the 20th minute: Fermín received the ball from Yamal on the right and crossed for Lewa to score first time. For the last goal, the golden trio once again took care of everything on their own: Lewandowski won the ball back, Raphinha ran down the left and crossed for Yamal to finish the score in the 31st minute.
