Luka Modric aims to play in the 2026 World Cup
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Luka Modric is looking to extend his stay in Madrid for another season.
The desire to stay at Real Madrid is probably linked to the planned participation in the 2026 World Cup with the Croatian national team. Modric joined Real in 2012 from Tottenham for €35 million. Since then, he has won 28 trophies with the LaLiga giants , including six editions of the UEFA Champions League .
«Football is a gift because of its seriousness, quality and professionalism»
Modric ‘s biggest supporter at Real is coach Carlo Ancelotti. The 65-year-old has proposed to the club’s board that Modric sign for another year: “He knows what he’s doing on the pitch and what he does, he does very well.”
«Football is a gift because of its seriousness, quality and professionalism. We had another player who was 40 years old, Paolo Maldini,” added the coach who won everything there was to win with the team from the Spanish capital.
Ancelotti drew a parallel between Modric and Maldini, revealing that he would have liked to have seen Paolo at Real Madrid : «They can be compared in terms of what a footballer should be. They are fantastic examples. It is no coincidence that they have reached 40 years on the pitch. Genetics count, but so does commitment and attitude.»
