Official transfer window: West Ham sacks Lopetegui
Spanish coach to arrive in July 2024
West Ham United announced on Wednesday that Julen Lopetegui has left the club.
“The first half of the 2024/25 season did not live up to the club’s ambitions, so measures were taken in line with its objectives,” reads a statement from the Hammers , which says the Spaniard’s coaching staff is also leaving.
“The Board would like to thank Julen and his team for the hard work they have done during their time at the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.”
Arriving in July 2024, Julen Lopetegui has played 22 games in all competitions after replacing David Moyes as manager. They recorded seven wins, five draws and 10 defeats, with 26 goals scored and 44 conceded. The Spaniard leaves the Hammers in 14th place in the Premier League table.
Lopetegui’s press conference for Wednesday afternoon was cancelled in the morning.
The coach’s position had been on the ropes for a long time and in the last few hours Graham Potter was appointed to the position.
