“Hungary coach didn’t have to apologize,” says Ronald Koeman
The Netherlands drew 1-1 with the Hungarians, who used an extremely defensive scheme
Anyone who had only seen the statistics from Hungary vs Netherlands would have guessed a big win for the Dutch. That was not what happened: the game ended 1-1, largely thanks to a particularly defensive display by the Hungarians that even led coach Marco Rossi to apologise to Ronald Koeman, the opposing coach. Koeman, however, says that this was not necessary.
«The Hungarian coach apologised to me, but it’s not necessary. I understand that he wanted a different plan after the defeat to Germany [0-5]. It seems logical to me», said Ronald Koeman, in the preview of the match against the Germans. The former Benfica coach says that the Dutch «should have played better and taken advantage of their opportunities» and, without van Dijk, who is suspended, Stefan de Vrij could take on the captain’s armband: «In the past, the player with the most appearances for the national team was the captain, that is, de Vrij.»
