England caretaker resigns: ‘This job deserves a world-class coach’
Lee Carsley’s comments after the win against Finland
Lee Carsley, England’s interim manager, admits he is not thinking about continuing in the role, admitting he could return to the under-21 team.
“I haven’t really thought about it too much. I keep saying the same thing. I was responsible for six games and I’m happy with that. This is a privileged position. I’m enjoying it, but I haven’t enjoyed the last two days. I’m not used to losing to an England team, I don’t take losing well,” he said, after the 3-1 victory over Finland, in the fourth round of Group B2 of the Nations League .
“People will always try to put their chips on one side. I’m in the middle. My bosses have made it clear what they need from me. This job deserves a world-class coach who has won trophies and I’m still on the path to that,” he added.
In the last few hours, Thomas Tuchel’s name has been put forward by the German press as a hypothesis for the role of England coach.
