Youth League: Barcelona crush Trabzonspor to lift the trophy
It is the third victory for the Catalans, who thus surpass Chelsea
Barcelona were crowned UEFA Youth League champions on Tuesday after defeating Trabzonspor 4-1 at the Centre Sportif de Colovray in Nyon. With this victory, Barcelona became the club with the most titles in the competition, now having won three trophies and surpassing Chelsea, who have two.
The Catalans’ dominance was evident from the start, with Diarra opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a low, well-struck shot. The team continued to press and, in the 18th minute, Cuenca doubled their lead with a header from a set piece. Despite a fine goal from Juan Hernández being ruled out for offside, Barcelona continued to push forward.
In the second half, the Blaugrana’s superiority continued. Alba, the captain, scored the third goal in the 56th minute with a powerful shot from inside the box. Diarra was again the star of the match when he scored the fourth goal in the 68th minute, with a low shot that deceived the opposing goalkeeper. Trabzonspor managed to reduce the deficit in the 88th minute, with a header from Bican Tibukoglu, who celebrated with emotion. However, it was not enough to prevent Barcelona from winning convincingly.
