Renowned journalist Leandro Aguilera reveals a middleman is pitching the Boca Juniors project to Napoli’s striker for the 2026 season.

Boca Juniors could be preparing the most ambitious transfer in South American history. Following the success of Edinson Cavani, the Argentine giants are now linked with a shock move for Belgium’s all-time leading scorer, Romelu Lukaku.

According to Argentine journalist Leandro Aguilera, an unnamed intermediary is working behind the scenes to bridge the gap between the player and the club. While there is no official bid from Boca yet, the agent is reportedly “testing the waters” to see if Lukaku is open to a move to Buenos Aires for the 2026 campaign.

The “Cavani” Blueprint

Boca Juniors is currently searching for a high-profile “Number 9” to bolster their attack. With Edinson Cavani already leading the line, the addition of Lukaku would create a formidable partnership that would dominate South American football.

The intermediary believes that the atmosphere of La Bombonera and the project presented by Juan Román Riquelme could entice the Belgian, who is reportedly seeking a fresh challenge outside of Europe.

Struggle at Napoli

Despite his legendary status in Serie A, Lukaku’s current situation at Napoli is complicated. After falling down the pecking order in Antonio Conte’s system, the striker has seen limited minutes this season.

  • Stats at Napoli: 14 goals and 11 assists in 39 appearances.
  • Contract: His current deal in Italy runs until June 2027, making a permanent transfer expensive, but a loan or a structured deal could be on the table.

What Lukaku Would Bring to Argentina

At 32/33 years old (in 2026), Lukaku still possesses the physical dominance and clinical finishing that could easily see him scoring 20+ goals per season in the Argentine league. His ability to hold up the ball and exploit spaces on the counter-attack fits perfectly with the high-intensity style of the Copa Libertadores.

If Lukaku gives the “green light,” the intermediary will officially present the proposal to Boca Juniors’ board to begin negotiations with Napoli.
