LIVERPOOL – Federico Chiesa’s stint at Anfield appears to be drawing to a premature close. Despite arriving with high expectations last summer, the Italian international is reportedly among the names Liverpool is prepared to sell as part of a major squad overhaul at the end of the current campaign.

The Reds’ board is already planning for the 2026/27 season following a period of inconsistent form in the Premier League. According to renowned journalist Paul Joyce, the club has shifted its stance on Chiesa, moving him from a “squad option” to the transfer list.

Slot’s Tactical Pivot

While Chiesa has seen minutes under Arne Slot this season, he has struggled to cement a place in the starting XI or earn the manager’s full tactical trust. Slot reportedly feels that the squad requires a different profile of attacker to compete for major silverware again.

In the recent January window, Juventus expressed interest in bringing the forward back to Turin on loan. At the time, Liverpool blocked the move due to a lack of depth in the front line. However, the club’s hierarchy has now decided that a permanent sale in July is the best financial and sporting outcome for all parties.

Chiesa is unlikely to be the only high-profile departure. The Liverpool board is determined to “refresh” the squad, focusing on keeping only the core “indispensable” players. This strategy suggests that several bench options and players who have failed to justify their investment will be offloaded to fund new arrivals.

For Chiesa, a return to Serie A remains the most likely destination, though interest from other Premier League clubs cannot be ruled out. Valued for his versatility, the 28-year-old will be looking for a project where he can regain his status as a regular starter ahead of the next international cycle.
