Barcelona’s victory over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final dominated headlines across Spain on Sunday (11), with major newspapers praising the Catalan side’s efficiency and tactical maturity. Barça defeated their biggest rivals 3–2 to lift their 16th Super Cup title, further reinforcing their recent dominance in El Clásico finals.

Media praise for Barça’s control and efficiency

Catalan outlet Sport highlighted Barcelona’s composure and game management, describing the performance as “recognizable and effective.”

“Hansi Flick’s team knew how to take advantage of key moments and managed the tempo perfectly against a Real Madrid side that remained dangerous on the counter-attack,” the newspaper wrote.

After Raphinha scored his third goal, Sport added that “Real Madrid were once again adrift, waiting for a mistake from Barça and it never came. Barcelona controlled possession intelligently and closed the game with authority.”

Madrid outplayed, say Spanish outlets

Mundo Deportivo echoed the sentiment, stressing Barcelona’s dominance throughout the final.

“Barcelona were superior, took the initiative and ended up subduing a Real Madrid side that looked more ‘Mourinhized’ than ever,” the paper noted, referencing coach Xabi Alonso, described as the most prominent disciple of José Mourinho now on the Madrid bench.

Meanwhile, El País focused on Hansi Flick’s tactical decisions, praising the German coach for fielding the attacking trio that powered Barcelona to success in domestic competitions last season.

“Flick got it right once again by trusting the attacking trident that has defined Barça’s recent dominance,” the publication stated.

Flick era strengthens Barcelona’s dominance over Real Madrid

The Super Cup triumph extends Barcelona’s recent superiority over their historic rivals. Since Hansi Flick’s arrival, Barça have faced Real Madrid in two Spanish Super Cup finals and one Copa del Rey final winning all three.

Raphinha played a decisive role in each of those victories, further cementing his importance in big matches.

Beyond the trophy itself, the win gives Barcelona three consecutive Super Cup final victories over Real Madrid, widening the psychological gap between the sides and reinforcing Barça’s status as the dominant force in Spanish football’s biggest rivalry.
