Tottenham thrash West Ham 3-0 ahead of Villarreal clash

Tottenham delivered a dominant 3-0 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium, sending fans to the exits early and building momentum ahead of their European clash with Villarreal next week.

The emphatic win lifts Spurs to nine points in the Premier League, keeping them level with Arsenal and Bournemouth near the top of the table.

Spurs Back on Track After International Break

Tottenham had seen their early-season momentum stall before the international break, despite strong wins against Burnley and Bournemouth. But against West Ham, they rediscovered their intensity, suffocating the Hammers with high pressing and dangerous set pieces.

New signing Xavi Simons made headlines in his debut, dictating tempo and creating chances, including the assist for the opening goal.

First Half Tension, Second Half Explosion

The first half saw Tottenham dominate set-piece situations, with Cristian Romero having a goal disallowed and Micky van de Ven repeatedly causing problems in the box. Yet, West Ham held firm to go into halftime at 0-0.

Everything changed in a ruthless 10-minute spell after the break:

  • 49th minute – Pape Sarr headed in Simons’ cross for the opener.
  • 57th minute – Lucas Bergvall doubled the lead with a well-timed header.
  • 64th minute – Van de Ven sealed the result, finishing from Bergvall’s assist.

West Ham’s hopes evaporated when Tomáš Souček was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on João Palhinha, leaving the Hammers exposed against Tottenham’s relentless attack.

London Stadium Empties as Spurs March On

By the final whistle, large sections of the London Stadium had emptied, with home supporters leaving before the end of a one-sided contest. Tottenham, meanwhile, continued to push for more goals, sending a strong signal ahead of Villarreal’s visit to north London on Tuesday.

With nine points from their opening fixtures, Spurs are level with Arsenal and Bournemouth in the early Premier League standings, raising hopes of a sustained challenge this season.
