Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is back in training after recovering from a serious meniscus injury, marking a positive development for both his club and the German national team.
Return from Injury
Dortmund confirmed on Wednesday (October 10) that Schlotterbeck has resumed team training after five months out due to a torn meniscus. Videos posted on the club’s social media show him participating in warm-ups, light and intense running, technical exercises, and passing drills. He even scored in a small-sided drill, celebrating with a clenched fist.
“Five months after tearing his meniscus, Nico Schlotterbeck is back in team training: the Borussia Dortmund player trained partially with his teammates for the first time this week as part of his rehabilitation process,” the club said.
Implications for the German National Team
Schlotterbeck’s return is also good news for Germany. At 25, he has the potential to become a defensive mainstay for the national team, especially with Antonio Rüdiger (32) likely to retire after the next World Cup. Schlotterbeck has already represented Germany at the 2022 World Cup, 2024 European Championship, 2020 Olympics, and the European Under-21 Championship.
Competition at Dortmund
Schlotterbeck faces new competition at Borussia Dortmund. Aaron Anselmino, on loan from Chelsea, joined in the last transfer window, and Filippo Mané has been promoted to the first team. Despite these additions, Schlotterbeck’s experience and versatility give him a strong chance to regain a key role in Niko Kovac’s squad.
