Manchester United signs Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, nicknamed the “New Courtois”

Manchester United have secured the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, paying €21 million on the final day of the English transfer window. The Belgian arrives at Old Trafford with a growing reputation and has already been compared to Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois.
Red Devils Address Goalkeeper Concerns
The goalkeeper position has been a hot topic among United fans, with André Onana criticized for inconsistent displays and backup Altay Bayındır struggling to convince. The club even explored a move for Aston Villa’s Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez but ultimately opted for Lammens as a long-term solution.
Who Is Senne Lammens?
Lammens began his career at Club NXT before joining Club Brugge, where opportunities were limited. In 2023, he signed for Royal Antwerp, becoming a first-team regular and impressing with his ten clean sheets and strong penalty record.
Last season, he made 127 saves, the most in the Belgian Pro League, showcasing his reflexes and shot-stopping ability. Standing at 1.91m, Lammens combines height and agility traits that have fueled comparisons to Courtois.
Former Anderlecht goalkeeping coach Frank Boeckx even suggested he could one day reach the level of Belgium’s current No.1. Antwerp coach Mark van Bommel also praised his potential, predicting a bright future with the national team.
Rising Belgian Talent
Lammens has represented Belgium across multiple youth categories (U-15 to U-21) and received his first senior call-up in March 2025 for a Nations League match, where he was backup to Courtois.
His style of play includes quick reactions, strong aerial presence, and confidence in leaving his box qualities United’s coaching staff hope to refine under Erik ten Hag.
