Ugarte fails to convince Amorim
According to Manchester Evening News, Amorim has been dissatisfied with Ugarte since his arrival from PSG. Signed to reinforce the midfield, the Uruguayan never established himself and quickly lost his place to Casemiro.
Against Grimsby, he started for the first time this season but was substituted early in the second half after another underwhelming performance. In 45 minutes, Ugarte registered 44 touches, 86% pass accuracy, two interceptions, and won just half of his duels, earning a 6.5 SofaScore rating.
Elimination marked by errors
United’s 2-2 draw and subsequent 12-11 penalty defeat was filled with mistakes. Goalkeeper André Onana misjudged a corner that led to Grimsby’s second goal, while Matheus Cunha missed a crucial penalty in the shootout.
Late goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire forced extra time, but it wasn’t enough to avoid humiliation.
Pressure on Amorim grows
