Barcelona are weighing up big departures to solve their transfer puzzle. According to ESPN, the Catalan club want to sign Vanderson, AS Monaco’s right-back recently called up by Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti, but financial restrictions could force them to sacrifice key players such as Fermín López, Ronald Araújo, Marc Casadó and Andreas Christensen.
Vanderson deal blocked by finances
Barcelona have long admired Vanderson and are once again pushing for his arrival this summer. The 23-year-old defender is valued at around €25 million (R$157m), but La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules mean the club must first offload salaries to register any new additions.
Currently, Hansi Flick has Koundé, Eric García and Héctor Fort as right-back options, but the recent departure of Iñigo Martínez to Al-Nassr has reduced defensive depth. Vanderson is viewed as a versatile solution who could strengthen both defense and attack.
Key players on the market
To unlock the move, Barça are reportedly open to offers for:
- Fermín López (22) – linked with Chelsea, seen as a sale that could raise significant funds.
- Marc Casadó (21) – a La Masia midfielder who debuted for Spain last season.
- Ronald Araújo (26) – a mainstay in defense since 2018, but one of the club’s most valuable assets.
- Andreas Christensen (29) – signed from Chelsea in 2022, now considered expendable.
The board sees these exits as a way to balance the books and still pursue other targets, including Villarreal’s Etta Eyong.
Barça’s next challenge in La Liga
After two straight wins, Barcelona will face Rayo Vallecano away on Sunday (31), at 4:30 pm (Brasília time). But behind the scenes, the main challenge remains: raising funds quickly enough to secure Vanderson before the transfer window closes.
