Napoli close to signing Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United for £38m

Napoli are set to finalize a deal with Manchester United for striker Rasmus Hojlund, with the Italian champions agreeing to pay €45 million (£38m / R$284m) after an initial loan.
Napoli Moves for Hojlund After Lukaku Injury
The Serie A champions, coached by Antonio Conte, are in urgent need of a center forward following Romelu Lukaku’s injury. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks between Napoli and Manchester United are progressing positively, with the structure of the transfer already agreed.
The agreement would see Hojlund arrive on loan with a mandatory purchase clause that will be triggered at the end of the season.
Hojlund Eager to Return to Serie A
At just 21 years old, Hojlund is keen on relaunching his career in Italy, where he previously shone with Atalanta. Under new manager Ruben Amorim at United, the Dane has slipped to the bottom of the pecking order.
With Benjamin Sesko signed as a starter and Joshua Zirkzee ahead in the squad hierarchy, Hojlund has not featured in United’s opening Premier League matches. The striker quickly realized he would need to leave Old Trafford to secure regular playing time.
United Face Heavy Financial Loss
Manchester United paid €77.8 million (R$492m) to sign Hojlund from Atalanta in 2023. If the deal with Napoli is finalized, the club would record a €32.8 million (R$145m) loss on the player.
Despite a promising start, Hojlund’s impact at United was limited: 95 appearances, 26 goals, and six assists. A return to Serie A now appears the best solution for his development and United’s finances.
