Arsenal consider signing Piero Hincapié, but the deal depends on Kiwior or Zinchenko leaving

Gunners weigh approach for Bayer Leverkusen defender while Spurs also enter the race.

Arsenal probe Hincapié’s availability

Arsenal have set their sights on Piero Hincapié, Bayer Leverkusen’s Ecuadorian defender, as Mikel Arteta continues his search for reinforcements at the back. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners contacted the German club after the player’s decision to leave the BayArena.

At this stage, there is no formal offer on the table. A potential move, however, depends directly on the exit of Jakub Kiwior or Oleksandr Zinchenko, both of whom are listed as transferable.

Kiwior in talks with Porto

One of the possible departures is Jakub Kiwior, who has attracted interest from FC Porto. Negotiations are ongoing for a loan deal with an option to buy, though Arsenal insist on receiving €27 million (R$171 million) to sanction the move. Zinchenko, meanwhile, has also been linked with a move away from the Emirates.

The Gunners view Hincapié as a long-term solution: a 23-year-old defender with experience in the Bundesliga and the flexibility to operate both centrally and as a left-back.

Tottenham also in the race

Arsenal will face stiff competition from their North London rivals. Tottenham have already advanced with a loan offer including an obligation to buy for Hincapié, signaling strong intent to beat Arsenal to the signing.

Spurs have been aggressive in the market and are simultaneously negotiating for Rodrygo from Real Madrid, underlining their ambition to add quality to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Profile of Piero Hincapié

Hincapié has established himself as one of Bayer Leverkusen’s most reliable defenders, known for his anticipation, speed, and ability to win individual duels. Beyond his defensive solidity, he contributes with clean ball progression and vertical passes that break opposition lines qualities that make him a highly sought-after talent in Europe.

At just 23, the Ecuadorian has already drawn comparisons with some of Europe’s elite defenders and now finds himself at the center of a Premier League transfer battle.
