Marseille beats Paris FC 5-2 and secures first Ligue 1 victory

Olympique de Marseille bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Rennes with a convincing 5-2 home win over newly promoted Paris FC on Saturday, in the second round of Ligue 1.

Marseille reacts after early scare

OM quickly built a 2-0 lead through a Mason Greenwood penalty in the 18th minute and a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike in the 25th. However, Paris FC stunned the Velodrome with goals from Ilan Kebbal (28’) and Moses Simon (58’), leveling the score at 2-2.

Aubameyang inspires final surge

Veteran striker Aubameyang restored Marseille’s advantage in the 73rd minute, before Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (81’) and youngster Robinio Vaz (90+6’) sealed the emphatic 5-2 victory. The win comes as a much-needed boost for Marseille, who began the season with a loss and faced internal turmoil after a reported locker room clash between Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe, both now listed for transfer.

Paris FC struggles in top-flight return

For Paris FC, the heavy defeat leaves them without points in their first Ligue 1 campaign, following an opening loss to Angers. Their defensive frailties were once again exposed against top-level opposition.

PSG sets early pace

Meanwhile, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain continue their strong start, recording their second win in three matches on Friday. A goal from Fabián Ruiz secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Angers, keeping PSG on top of the early standings.
