Manchester United extends youth star Safia Middleton-Patel’s contract until 2028

Manchester United has secured the future of one of its brightest young talents. The club confirmed a new three-year contract for 20-year-old Welsh goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel, a key figure emerging from United’s academy.

United Locks in Goalkeeping Talent

Middleton-Patel, who previously gained experience on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Watford, is now back with the Red Devils’ first team. The deal runs through 2028, reflecting United’s long-term faith in her development.

The young goalkeeper made her senior debut for Manchester United last year and is determined to compete for more minutes.

“It was always my dream to play for United’s first team. I’m excited for the next three years and want to keep learning from our excellent group of goalkeepers,” said Middleton-Patel after signing.

Club Praises Safia’s Development

Matt Johnson, United’s director of women’s football, highlighted the importance of the renewal, calling Middleton-Patel a product of consistent academy work.

“We’re proud of the progress Safia has made over five years and thrilled about her potential. Any team chasing trophies needs depth in goal, and with Safia, Kayla, and Phallon, we have one of the strongest units in the league,” Johnson stated.

What’s Next for United Women

The Red Devils are coming off a solid preseason with one win and two draws in friendlies. Their first official test arrives on Wednesday, August 27, when they face PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Women’s Champions League playoffs (7:00 a.m. Brasília time).

With Safia Middleton-Patel now secured for the long term, Manchester United strengthens not only its goalkeeping department but also its ambitions to compete for silverware this season.
