Hansi Flick challenges Barcelona’s board over Marc Casadó’s sale: “I want him here”

German coach publicly defends midfielder as club seeks funds through player sales
Barcelona’s financial struggles have sparked internal tension, with coach Hansi Flick openly clashing with the board over plans to sell Marc Casadó during the current transfer window. The Blaugrana leadership has informed the 21-year-old that he is no longer in the club’s plans, but neither the player nor his coach agrees with the decision.
Flick Speaks Out Publicly
At a press conference on August 21, Flick voiced his frustration and confirmed he wants Casadó to remain part of his squad:
“I spoke to him, of course, but I don’t think he wants to leave the club, and I also want him here. It’s going to be a difficult season. We need all the players. He gives us a lot of confidence in the team,” Flick stated.
The German coach stressed that Barcelona’s packed schedule requires depth and reiterated his stance against further departures:
“I can repeat what I said before: I don’t want to lose any more players now, because it will be a difficult season.”
Board’s Financial Pressure vs. Flick’s Sporting Plans
Barcelona’s management is determined to comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play rules, which has already led to the exit of seven players this summer through sales, loans, and free transfers. However, Flick believes Casadó’s departure would weaken the squad ahead of a long campaign in Spain and Europe.
The midfielder, who has been attracting interest from several clubs, is not pushing for a transfer. Instead, he hopes to compete for more minutes despite strong competition in Barcelona’s midfield.
Casadó’s Role and Stats
Under Flick, Marc Casadó has played 36 matches, contributing directly to seven goals — one goal and six assists. His versatility and homegrown status make him a valuable squad option, especially amid Barcelona’s ongoing injury concerns.
