AC Milan Close to Signing Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen in €30m Deal

AC Milan are on the verge of completing the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface, one of the standout players of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side that won the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Super Cup.
Verbal Agreement Reached
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Milan have reached a verbal agreement with both Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen. The deal will initially be a loan with an option to buy set at €30 million (around R$191 million). If he impresses Massimiliano Allegri during the season, the Rossoneri are expected to trigger the permanent transfer.
Milan’s Search for a No. 9
The Rossoneri have been in the market for a new striker to compete with Santiago Giménez, currently their only senior centre-forward option. Allegri has insisted on strengthening Milan’s physical presence up front, and Boniface’s finishing ability and strength in the penalty area fit the profile.
With Luka Modric now orchestrating the attack, the addition of a powerful striker like Boniface could transform Milan’s offensive play and give the midfield maestro a consistent target in the box.
Falling Out of Favor at Leverkusen
Boniface’s departure comes after he struggled to fit into new manager Erik ten Hag’s plans at Leverkusen. During pre-season, the Nigerian forward featured for just 19 minutes in a defeat against Chelsea and was later left out of the squad in their German Cup opener, where Patrick Schick started instead.
The message was clear: Boniface was no longer central to Leverkusen’s project under Ten Hag.
Career at Leverkusen and Titles Won
Signed from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023, Boniface quickly became one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting strikers under Xabi Alonso. In two seasons at the BayArena, he scored 32 goals and provided 12 assists across 61 appearances, forming a lethal partnership with Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.
He was instrumental in Leverkusen’s historic treble-winning 2023/24 campaign, lifting the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and German Super Cup.
