Arthur Melo Chooses Grêmio Over Flamengo and Will Earn Luis Suárez-Level Salary

Midfielder set to return to Porto Alegre after rejecting Flamengo twice

Arthur Melo is on his way back to Grêmio after turning down two separate approaches from Flamengo, according to Gaúcha GZH. The midfielder, currently out of Juventus’ plans, is expected to arrive in Brazil next week to undergo medical tests and sign with the Porto Alegre club.

Salary on Par With Luis Suárez

Grêmio secured Arthur with a deal that places him among the club’s top earners. Reports indicate the midfielder will receive a monthly salary of around R$2 million, similar to what Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez earned during his stint with Tricolor Gaúcho.

Why Arthur Rejected Flamengo

Despite Flamengo’s strong interest and multiple attempts to land him, Arthur’s focus was always a return to Grêmio, the club where he first rose to prominence before moving to Europe. His decision reinforces the strong connection he has with his boyhood team.

Arthur’s Uneven European Career

Arthur’s journey in Europe began at Barcelona, where he was initially hailed as a successor to Xavi and Iniesta. However, injuries disrupted his rise, and he later moved to Juventus. Loan spells at Liverpool, Fiorentina, and most recently Girona followed, but his performances failed to match early expectations. At Girona, he managed just 15 appearances without scoring or assisting.
