Marquinhos admits Tottenham have an advantage in preparing for the UEFA Super Cup final

Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos has acknowledged that Tottenham Hotspur may have a preparation advantage heading into Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final at the Bluenergy Stadium. The match will pit the reigning Champions League winners against last season’s Europa League champions.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the Brazilian defender noted that Spurs arrive with more pre-season work under their belt compared to PSG, who recently played in the FIFA Club World Cup final.

“Starting the season as last season’s champions, already competing for a European title against a great team, even with less preparation than them, we’re definitely fighting for the title. We can’t let this opportunity pass us by,” Marquinhos said.

Learning From Past Finals

Marquinhos also reflected on PSG’s mixed record in decisive matches, citing the loss to Chelsea as a reminder of the fine margins in finals:

“We’ve had some good moments, but we also lost to Chelsea, so we know the feeling of both winning and losing. Tomorrow, we’ll try to leave everything on the pitch.”

PSG Near Full Strength

Manager Luis Enrique will have almost his entire squad available, with Gianluigi Donnarumma the only notable absentee left out by the coach’s decision. Key forward Ousmane Dembélé is confirmed to start after an outstanding 2023/24 season.

A veteran of 12 seasons at PSG, Marquinhos is already regarded as one of the club’s greatest icons. Last season, he made 48 appearances and scored three goals; the previous campaign, he registered 36 games and three assists. His current contract runs until mid-2028.
