Real Madrid rejects Rodrygo-Haaland swap and demands €100 million from Manchester City

Real Madrid have ruled out the possibility of including Erling Haaland or Rodri in a swap deal for Rodrygo, despite growing interest from Manchester City. According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, the club will only consider selling the Brazilian forward for €100 million around R$630 million at current exchange rates in a straight cash transfer.

The decision comes as Rodrygo’s role at the Santiago Bernabéu appears increasingly uncertain. Once a key figure under Carlo Ancelotti, the 23-year-old ended last season on a subdued note and was sparingly used during the Club World Cup, signaling that new coach Xabi Alonso may not see him as a regular starter.

Manchester City remain frontrunners

Pep Guardiola’s side are seen as the favorites to secure Rodrygo’s signature, but they are not alone in the race. Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed interest, though City’s financial strength and current squad project give them a competitive edge.

Tottenham are reportedly prepared to meet Real Madrid’s valuation, but sources in Spain claim the player is not keen on a move to North London, especially with compatriot Richarlison already leading the Spurs attack.

Real Madrid’s transfer strategy

By insisting on a full €100 million payment, Real Madrid aim to use the funds to strengthen their squad in other areas. While club president Florentino Pérez remains a long-term admirer of Haaland and Rodri, a player exchange with Manchester City is considered unviable in the current market.

With the summer window heating up, Rodrygo’s future could become one of the defining transfer stories a high-value deal that may reshape the attacking options for both Real Madrid and whichever club wins the race for his signature.
