RB Leipzig and Chelsea in advanced talks over swap deal involving Nkunku and Xavi Simons

French forward could return to the Bundesliga while Dutch star prepares for Premier League move

RB Leipzig and Chelsea are in advanced negotiations for a potential high-profile swap deal that could see Christopher Nkunku return to the Bundesliga, with Xavi Simons heading to Stamford Bridge.

According to sources close to both clubs, discussions are progressing rapidly, with the structure of the agreement designed to benefit both sides. Nkunku, 26, joined Chelsea from Leipzig last summer in a £52 million transfer but has endured an injury-plagued season in England. Leipzig, fresh from selling Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United for £73.7 million, view the Frenchman as an ideal reinforcement for their attack.

On the other side of the deal, Chelsea have placed Simons, 21, at the top of their recruitment list. The Dutch international impressed in his debut season with Leipzig after joining from Paris Saint-Germain and is seen as a long-term solution to bolster the Blues’ creativity and attacking depth.

Complex Financial Structure

Simons’ market valuation is estimated at around €70 million (£59 million), but including Nkunku in the swap could significantly reduce Chelsea’s financial outlay. The London club currently values Nkunku at approximately £40 million, creating room for a mutually advantageous arrangement.

Further Changes Expected at Stamford Bridge

The move comes as Chelsea continue to reshape their forward line. Talks are ongoing with Manchester United over Alejandro Garnacho, while the club is open to selling Nicolas Jackson. Newcastle United have expressed interest in Jackson, though their plans may depend on Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak. AC Milan are also monitoring the 24-year-old striker, who trained separately from the squad last week.

Chelsea, initially valuing Jackson at £80 million, could now accept a fee closer to £65 million. The absence of both Nkunku and Jackson from the recent friendly against Bayer Leverkusen has further fueled speculation of an attacking overhaul.

Simons Leaning Toward Chelsea Move

Xavi Simons, represented by agent Ali Barat who maintains strong links with Chelsea is reportedly open to a Premier League switch. With the transfer window nearing its close, the coming days will be decisive for finalizing one of the summer’s most intriguing deals.

If completed, the agreement would mark a significant reshaping of both squads, with Chelsea aiming to inject creativity into their attack, and Leipzig seeking to reunite with one of their most prolific former players.
